Three principals honored for excellence

The Springfield region of the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals has selected three Springfield Public Schools principals as representatives for the 2024-2025 MAESP Distinguished Principals Program. In March, Angie Carder, Courtney Ellis and Beth Sandbothe will be honored at MAESP’s annual Leadership Conference.

The program chooses principals who demonstrate leadership that ensures Missouri's children acquire a sound foundation for lifelong learning and achievement.

Angie Carder, principal at Gray Elementary School, has been selected as Distinguished Principal. She is a collaborative colleague who is always willing to provide guidance and ideas. She seeks opportunities to serve beyond her own school by mentoring others. She builds strong, trusting relationships within her school, the district and the community.

Courtney Ellis, principal at Mann Elementary School, has been selected as Exemplary New Principal. She demonstrates an unwavering commitment to excellence and remarkable leadership qualities. She is also a collaborative leader who values teamwork, consistently seeking opportunities to learn from and work alongside other principals. Her dedication to building strong relationships and her focus on continuous improvement have made a significant impact on her school community and beyond.

Beth Sandbothe, assistant principal at Disney Elementary School, has been selected as Outstanding Assistant Principal. She has provided a wealth of resources and support for academics, attendance and social emotional development. She is always willing to support other schools and is a confident leader. Beth developed an attendance incentive at Disney that contributed to huge gains in APR. She creates culture-building opportunities to celebrate student success and collaborates with her administrative team and teachers.

All three principals were also honored for their achievements by the Board of Education at its Jan. 14 meeting.
